About 60 Chisinau pensioners received poultry, eggs, rice, oil, sugar and Easter bread at the City Hall on April 18. It was an action aimed at showing what can be bought from the 100 lei given by the Chisinau administration to elderly people and invalids on Easter, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said that initially it was agreed that the pensioners will be distributed food parcels on Easter, but the Chisinau Municipal Council decided that those entitled will receive by 100 lei and will spend it as they like. “The parcels were given neither by the mayor general nor the Central Market, but by the City Hall and the Municipal Council and the whole Democratic alliance. This aid is in fact from the residents of Chisinau municipality, who pay taxes into the budget. This is the least we can do to make the holidays more cheerful for you,” the mayor told the pensioners who came to the City Hall. Ion Stratulat, director of the municipal company “Central Market”, said that every parcel contains by a chicken that costs 27.50 lei/kg, a kilogram of rice (13 lei), a kilogram of sugar (15 lei), 10 eggs (10 lei), a liter of oil (20 lei) and Easter bread (8 lei). According to the mayor, the list of persons who received parcels was compiled by the social assistance services. Some of the pensioners who were given parcels said they took the allowance of 100 lei as well. The Chisinau administration provides social assistance on Easter to the pensioners and invalids whose monthly incomes are lower than 1,450 lei.
