Chirtoaca: Situation in Chisinau Council is critical
Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca asserts that the Chisinau City Council's meeting yesterday evening was not secret, but admits that the organizers failed to announce it to the media in a timely manner, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Mayor has told a press briefing today that the situation in the Council is “tense and even critical”.
According to Chirtoaca, many of the city councilors representing the Alliance were not able to attend the meeting which was initially called for 2:00PM because it overlapped with a major conference of local and regional authorities. The Communist and Socialist councilors were asked to wait until the end of the conference, claims Chirtoaca. When the conference ended and the councilors involved came to the City Hall, there was no one left in the assembly hall. The councilors waited until 6:00PM when there was a sufficient number of members for a quorum and started the meeting. “It would have been a good if the media were announced in a timely manner, but this wasn't done”, said Chirtoaca.
The Mayor said that the Council voted on a number of proposals in a package and adopted separately a few other measures. Concerning the renaming of a street from Cuza Voda to Alexei Belski, as it was reported, Dorin Chirtoaca said it wasn't possible, because when the Socialist group proposed it at the 2:00PM meeting, there was no quorum.
