Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has requested relevant municipal services to strictly monitor building sites across the municipality to curb unauthorized construction, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The number of construction authorizations do not correspond to the number of actual building sites in the city. Whereas there are about 2,000 authorizations, only some 1,000 sites are now active. Among these one thousand sites are many problematic ones”, the Mayor told the City Hall's meeting on Monday. He noted that there were many cases where a construction authorization was sought for two floors, but in the end the building got three floors or more, or the final area was much greater than the one initially authorized. Chirtoaca said the authorities should clamp down on unauthorized constructions and resort to demolitions. Nistor Grozavu, the deputy mayor responsible for constructions, said that many construction sites have been frozen for financial, technical or other reasons.
