Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the police used real bullets during the April protests and a car with a hood that was penetrated by a real bullet is now being examined as a proof. The mayor made the statements on Thursday evening, after he was questioned for two hours by the parliamentary commission for elucidating the causes and consequences of the April 2009 events, Info-Prim Neo reports. Chirtoaca said he told the commission about strange things that happened when the Parliament’s building was set on fire. “The fact that the building caught fire with no protester being inside is suspicious. Furthermore, the Parliament started to burn in the evening, after 8 P.M. It was a huge fire, but the young people were not near the Parliament then,” the mayor said. “I spoke about the facts I ascertained myself when on the spot. At first, the protests were peaceful as young people came to express their viewpoints. But later, organized groups of provokers came and incited the crowd to violence.” “I think it is very important that the persons who maltreated the young people after April 7 and killed Valeriu Boboc and others should be identified and punished. We do not yet have an answer to this question. This is a great problem and the Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of the Interior should provide the information they have,” Dorin Chirtoaca said. In another connection, the mayor said it is about a year after those events, but the young people do not yet know who is to blame and how those guilty will answer for their acts. He recommended the commission to question the maltreated young people as they know the best what happened.
