Chirtoaca presumes Chisinau servants might be involved in horse meat scheme
Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca assumes that the supply of horse meat to kindergartens may be part of a larger fraudulent scheme that involves municipal servants and officials of the State Veterinary Service, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the mayor, all the services responsible for the provision of food to kindergartens and schools will be checked. The number of unexpected inspections at these institutions’ kitchens will be increased. “Those who want to make money by endangering children’s lives must be punished,” Dorin Chirtoaca said angrily.
The mayor ordered immediately terminating the contract with the company Gref Comert, which supplied horse meat to several kindergartens in Ciocana district, with the documents showing it was beef. He instructed investigating how the given company won the tender contest if it did not have a medical certificate.
The municipal services are to submit proposals how to avoid such cases in the future. The head of the Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Tverdohleb suggested replacing the beef with chicken in kindergartens and schools as the chicken cannot be confused with other types of meat.
