Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has in mind a Western city management style for Chisinau. At a year-end summing-up meeting of the City Hall on Saturday, December 29, he stated that the city authorities have not the slightest intention of deceiving anyone and of dropping the assumed commitments. According to him, in the first six months since the new administration of the city was elected, the intention was to eradicate the wrong practices of the previous administration and to start things anew. The emphasis was placed on the need to match expenses and prices with their real value, to gradually reduce them and maximize their efficiency. Chirtoaca said there are still open problems that need to be resolved. “We are now at the stage of trying to correct the course of this machinery as it moves, and, at the same time, to make it work smoothly. Unfortunately, in this period we have concentrated our efforts on dealing away with the problems inherited from the previous administration, which impeded us from putting forward projects of our own, the cause for which we have been constantly accused. Yet we cannot allow ourselves to do that since there are so many burning issues that need immediate action”, the mayor said. Similar problems are expected to trouble the municipality in 2008 too, but they will be handled, the mayor assured. The next step will be to restructure the local administration. Chirtoaca says that at start pilot-projects in diverse areas will be implemented in each district in order to enable a shift to the Western style of city management.
