Chirtoaca – Filat duel before campaign for local elections
The first vice president of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoaca invited the head of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat to public debates, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The invitation was made on March 21 in response to Vlad Filat's assertions that the current mayor of Chisinau is not a dangerous opponent in this year's local elections. Dorin Chirtoaca urged Vlad Filat to accept a duel so as to clarify a number of issues in the presence of the press, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I do not want to discuss through the agency of the press, but if there is no other solution we can have a discussion whenever Vlad Filat wants so that we clarify the problems if they exist. There are many things to be said about the Alliance and the Communist danger,” said Dorin Chirtoaca.
The mayor reminded that Vlad Filat was one of his opponents in the local elections of 2007. Earlier, he repeatedly said that he will run for a new term in office as mayor of Chisinau.
The Liberal Democratic Party has not yet announced its candidate for Mayor of Chisinau. Vlad Filat said the name of the candidate will be made public after April 10, when the party's congress will take a decision to this effect.
Dorin Chirtoaca emerged victorious in the 2007 local elections, winning 61% of the vote in the second round, in which he dueled with the Communists' candidate Veaceslav Iordan. Vlad Filat ran in the elections as a representative of the Democratic Party and polled 17.8% of the vote.
