Tensions on the political arena started to grow after the parties applied to be registered as election contenders. The representatives of the Party of Development and Union of Moldova (PDCM) and of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) accuse each other of playing the games of the former Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc. The representative of AUR Dorin Chirtoacă said the party led by Ion Chicu was founded on the instruction of Igor Dodon so as to attract votes. The representatives of the PDCM deny the accusations and say that their party aims to ensure Moldova’s integration into the European Union, IPN reports.
In a TV program, Dorin Chirtoacă leveled accusations at ex-Premier Ion Chicu, saying Chicu created a party in order to play the games of the PSRM and to attract votes from the center-right parties.
“Chicu served as a minister for Plahotniuc and then as adviser for Dodon and as Prime Minister in the famous Government of Dodon’s advisers. Even Chicu’s dismissal wasn’t natural. Later, Chicu disappeared and then appeared on Telegram to announce the creation of his party. Currently, they act as stooges on the center-right so as to attract votes. But it is well known that the members of the mafia stick together,” Dorin Chirtoacă stated in the talk show “Ghețu Asks” on TV8 channel.
In reply, the secretary general of the PDCM Viorica Dumbrăveanu said the dismissal of the Chicu Government was a consequence of the PSRM-Shor majority that was formed at the end of last year. Dumbrăveanu assured that the party led by Chicu will promote the European course of the Republic of Moldova.
“The PL also formed a coalition with the PDM. I regret a lot that all the posts were politicized, especially those in the Executive. The PL, when it had the occasion, also formed an alliance with Plahotniuc. We resigned after we were unable to present the budgets in Parliament in proper conditions, after there were adopted a set of laws that were later declared unconstitutional. We resigned in protest,” stated Viorica Dumbrăveanu.
The PDCM and AUR submitted the required documents to the Central Election Commission for being registered as election contenders. If the PDCM is registered as a contestant, it will be under No. 13 on the ballot, while AUR will be under No. 14.
