Chiril Gaburici hopeful his resignation will be a start for forming new parliamentary majority

Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici in a press briefing on June 12 announced his resignation. He said that the people are equal before the law and the legal system is common for everyone and he considers that a Prime Minister, as any citizen, must support an objective inquiry and must benefit from such an inquiry. “I feel sorry that the subject about the presence or absence of a diploma started to acquire different connotations and is used in different political games,” stated Chiril Gaburici, noting he hopes there will be now no more speculations about the correctness and transparency of the investigation, IPN reports.

Chiril Gaburici voiced hope that the subject concerning his diploma, which he considers irrelevant, will be removed from the current agenda and the people will focus on the real problems faced by the country. Another reason for which he resigns is the fact that he does not enjoy power and freedom in the post of Prime Minister. “Given the three priorities set out in the plan of action, I need access to the necessary instruments and political will on the part of all the parties, both from the coalition and the opposition, so as to change things in the country. I already spoke about the situation of the banks, the insurance system and the general situation in economy and the country. I think we cannot pretend to be implementing reforms and concrete and immediate actions are needed to remedy the state of affairs. Otherwise, we become accomplices and prisoners of the current situation,” stated the Premier.

He called upon the leader of the coalition to regard his resignation as an occasion for immediately starting negotiations on the formation of a new parliamentary majority and a new Government. He noted he would like the new government program to be based on such objectives as the fight against corruption, depoliticization of all the institutions and ensuring of the security of the financial-banking system. “I want to thank the Moldovan people and to assure them that my gesture is a step not backward, but forward, for the country’s benefit, and that number of initiatives launched during my three-month tenure as head of Government rocked the foundations of the system. I hope it will be possible now to immediately restart the engines and to avoid a political and governmental crisis,” stated Chiril Gaburici.

“I realize the purpose of the political games and understand what image was created around me. I didn’t oppose and didn’t design, for my part, PR campaigns or scenarios. I didn’t want to fuel foreign games. I occupied the post of Premier in order to work and to provide results and we did this, together with my team.”

The Premier assured that regardless of the further developments, he will remain a supporter of Moldova’s modernization and development. He said he made a conscious decision and realizes that his gesture will be interpreted, reinterpreted and used by particular groups of interests, but this is not a political gesture because he is not a politician, but a manager, and his gesture is rather a strategic and calculated one.
