Chinese New Year marked at “Ion Creanga” Library

Students from a number of Chisinau lyceums Tuesday came together at the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga”, the branch housed by “Licurici” Theater, to take part in an event dedicated to the Chinese New Year, IPN reports.

The library’s vice director Eugenia Bejan said the given event became a tradition already. “It is an activity by which we are trying to familiarize the children with the history, culture, literature and traditions of the Chinese people. The library has long cooperation relations with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China,” stated Eugenia Bejan.

China’s Ambassador to Moldova Tong Mingtao said they obey a number of traditions in China before the Chinese New Year, which is also known as the Spring Festival. The housewives clean the house and prepare traditional dishes. Fish symbolizes welfare, while the dumplings (jiaozi) – the reunification of family. They also serve sweet rice. On this holiday, the Chinese people wear red clothes and set off fireworks.

The Chinese New Year is celebrated on February 19.
