Students of a number of Chisinau lyceums on January 26 came together at the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga”, the branch housed by the Theater “Licurici”, to celebrate the Chinese New Year that is also called the Festival of Spring, IPN reports.

On this occasion, there were staged interactive Chinese games, the contest “I want to know China”, an exhibition of books from the collections of “Ion Creanga” Library donated by the Embassy of China and “Confucius” Institute. There was mounted an exhibition of photographs about China, provided by the Embassy of China in Moldova and an exhibition of Chinese handmade objects.

The Library’s vice director Eugenia Bejan thanked for the book donation, which means contribution of the Chinese people in the process of inter-knowledge and for the assistance provided in holding events to mark the Chinese New Year.

China’s Ambassador to Moldova Zhang Yinghong said the Festival of Spring is one of the most important holidays in China. “It became a tradition to meet this festival here and I thank the Library “Ion Creanga” on behalf of the Embassy for the cultural support and cooperation. This year we celebrate 25 years of the launch of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Moldova. Both of the sides contributed to developing the political, economic and cultural relations,” he stated.

The diplomat also said that culture plays an important role in developing the bilateral relations of friendship. “Dear children, you are the future of the country and the future of the relations of friendship between China and Moldova. I hope that an increasing number of children will be interested in China and they will become messengers of the friendship between China and Moldova in time,” the diplomat said, addressing those attending the event.

Zhang Yinghong said 2017 is the year of the Golden Cock, which symbolizes happiness, and wished happiness and success to all those attending.
