Children’s ombudswoman recommends placing filters to websites
The ombudswoman for the protection of children’s rights Tamara Plamadeala recommends the Government to take measures and oblige the service providers to introduce systems for filtering or event blocking access to certain websites so as to prevent the children from seeing pornography and violence. The recommendations were made on the occasion of the Safer Internet Day that is marked on February 8.
According to Tamara Plamadeala, more and more children become victims of abuse, violence and child pornography on the Internet. Thus, regulations should be included in the national legislation to prevent and combat such cases.
A study by the European Commission shows that over 50% of children access websites containing violence, while 35% open websites with pornography or nudity by pop-up adverts or by accidentally accessing sites with indecent content.
The Safer Internet Day is celebrated in over 50 countries under the aegis of the European Safer Internet Network INSAFE within the European Commission’s Safer Internet Plus program.
