The children’s ombudswoman Maia Bănărescu, in connection with the epidemiological situation in the country and the declared state of emergency, calls on the parents, legal representatives of children to ensure the appropriate protection of children with maximum responsibility, in accordance with the requirements formulated by the responsible public authorities, IPN reports.

Maia Bănărescu said the current situation requires everyone to be responsible towards oneself and towards those around. “The realization of any right is ensured by the state, but the state is also obliged to impose restrictions/limitations in the exercise of particular rights so as to ensure the safety of people’s lives and public health,” she stated.

The ombudswoman urges the parents to strictly obey the rules imposed by the authorities and reminds them of the new legal provisions that enable to hold accountable the persons who do not obey the quarantine rules. The persons looking after children are warned about the Contravention Code’s provisions concerning punishment for not fulfilling the obligations to maintain, educate and teach the child.

Maia Bănărescu noted the suspension of the educational process does not mean vacation and does not imply recreational activities. The measure was taken in a move to protect the children from the risk of infection with COVID-19 and to stop the spread of infection.

The ombudswoman said she is ready to intervene when children face a problem related to the epidemiological situation and to the protection of children’s rights. In this regard, the children can call the Child’s Trust Line managed by the Children’s Rights Division on 080011116.

The educational process in kindergartens, schools, colleges and universities was halted as of March 11 for two weeks, but was later extended for one more week.
