The children from socially disadvantaged families will be allocated by at least 300 lei for the new school year. In a news conference on August 7, Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Ruxanda Glavan said a sum of 7.5 million lei was earmarked for the purpose, IPN reports.
The local authorities will compile and approve the list of recipients and the size of the allowance. The payments will be made through the agency of local social support funds. About 25,000 children will benefit from lump sums.
The lowest allowance is 300 lei, by 100 lei more than last year. It will be increased if the local authorities have own financial resources available.
The deputy minister said the selection of recipients from among children of school age from socially deprived families will be done in cooperation with specialists of the district social assistance divisions, the local education institutions, the community social workers and the relevant local public commissions.
In Chisinau, lump sums of 600 lei this year will be provided to 8,000 children. The money was allocated from the municipal fund.
