Children from residential institutions to rest and receive treatment in Switzerland

As many as 87 children with different health problems this weekend go to a summer camp in Switzerland, where they will be examined by Swiss doctors. The children are from schools for orphans and residential institutions and were selected based on their medical records. They will stay at the camp for two weeks.

The trip was organized by the Ministry of Education and the Swiss foundation Swisscor. Contacted by IPN, Swisscor foreign administrative coordinator Valentina Suruceanu said that all the travel and treatment expenses are covered by the organizers. The children will be accompanied by 27 adults. They are aged between 10 and 12 and suffer from mental retardation, hearing, locomotor and visual impairments.

While in Switzerland, the children will be helped depending on the form of disability from which they suffer. The visually-impaired children will receive glasses, the hearing-impaired ones – hearing aids, while the children in wheelchairs will have the wheelchairs modernized or repaired. All the children will benefit from dental treatment.

Valentina Suruceanu said that the Swiss summer camp has been organized the 14th year, while the Moldovan children will take part in it the fourth time. Three girls with hearing impairments saw improvements as a result of the treatment received in Switzerland. This year they will go again to Switzerland for new examinations.
