Children from flood-stricken localities vaccinated against hepatitis A
The children from the flood-stricken localities have started to be vaccinated against hepatitis A as of Tuesday, September 9. Children from orphanages and boarding schools are also vaccinated.
An official with the Preventive Medicine Center, Constantin Spanu, has told Info-Prim Neo the children from orphanages and boarding schools from Chisinau and Briceni district will get vaccinated first. They vaccinate the children aged from 7 to 14.
Constantin Spanu says the vaccine against hepatitis A does not have side-effects and insures a protection degree of 94-96%. The action of the vaccine is more successful if one observes elementary rules of hygiene.
The Preventive Medicine Center has got 5,000 dozes from the US army. Yet Moldova needs more.
Earlier, the Health Ministry said some 60,000 children would be vaccinated, including 15,000 in Transnistria. A doze against hepatitis costs some $20.
