Children from diaspora have Romanian language curriculum

The first ever Romanian language curriculum for children from the Moldovan diaspora was approved. The program to teach the Romanian language is intended for children aged between 7 and 12 from mixed or reintegrated families of the diaspora, with a minimum or different level of knowledge, who want to study Romanian culture and civilization as part of informal education, IPN reports.

According to the Bureau for Diaspora Relations, the curriculum can be used by diaspora trainers in educational activities. The children from the diaspora involved in this course will develop skills to write and read and to also communicate in the Romanian language and this will enable them to maintain the identity-cultural ties with parents, grandparents and their homeland.

During June 21-25, the Bureau for Diaspora Relations and IOM Moldova staged in Chisinau a workshop for diaspora teachers from Diaspora Educational Center based in seven countries, whose activity is already supported by the Bureau and IOM Moldova. In the workshop, the teachers examined didactical aspects of the curriculum and methods of implementing this.

The Bureau for Diaspora Relations said those who didn’t manage to enroll at the June workshop can attend a workshop in August, which will be held on the occasion of the Diaspora Days 2017 (August 18-20 august). Applications should be submitted to itvigun@iom.int by August 10.
