Children born in Moldova will benefit from guaranteed nationality

The children who will be born in the Republic of Moldova will benefit from the guaranteed right to the country’s nationality. Parliament gave a final reading to a legislative proposal providing for this, IPN reports.

Currently, the children who are born in Moldova and whose parents are not Moldovan nationals can obtain the nationality of the Republic of Moldova only if at least one of the parents, when the child was born, had the right of abode, benefited from international protection or were recognized as stateless persons by the responsible authorities.

The bill was proposed by PAS MP Angela Munteanu-Pojoga and is supported by the Ombudsperson’s Office and the Council for Equality, being mentioned as a legislative proposal in the report for 2021 on the prevention of discrimination in Moldova.
