The childbirth lump sum payment will rise by 500 lei to 3,100 lei for the first child and to 3,400 for the second or next children. The Government has approved a decision on the implementation of the given provision from the 2014 state budget law, IPN reports.
The monthly childcare allowances paid to medically uninsured persons for looking after the child up to the age of one year and a half will be increased by 100 lei. The allowances for orphans or children who remained without parental care from family-type homes will grow by 200 lei, up from 450 lei, while for children placed in the professional parent assistance service - by 30%, to 28 lei a day.
The National Confederation of Trade Unions welcomed the decision to raise the childbirth lump sum, but said that the sum is insufficient. The trade unions asked that the allowance be 5,000 lei, but, owing to the tight budget, it will be increased by only 500 lei.
