Child under one falls from third floor

Mosquito nests cause new victims among kids. A child aged ten months from Balti fell from the third floor when left alone on the window frame where there was a mosquito nest. The child was rushed to the Balti Municipal Hospital, where he was diagnosed with brain injury and multiple clavicle fractures. The head of the Emergency Admissions Section Ala Condrea has told IPN that the child is out of danger now.

While on a visit to relatives in Balti, the parents left the child without supervision when he was looking through the window. The kid pushed the mosquito nest and fell out. The doctor said the child was lucky to fall on grass as the collision with the ground wasn’t so serious.

Ala Condrea warned the parents with little children about the dangers posed by mosquito nests as they are not fixed and move easily when touched. “Summer is approaching and everyone will leave the balconies and windows open. Special attention is needed in the families with kids. The windows should be opened horizontally or the rooms should be aired when the kids are taken for a walk,” said the doctor.

According to the National Health Management Center, 2,900 children aged between 0 and 5 suffered traumas in Moldova last year. Sixty of them died. A study carried out within the REPEMOL project “Regionalization of the pediatric emergency and intensive care services in Moldova,” 66% of the parents are aware of the risk of the children being hurt in home accidents.
