Child sex offenders won't be eligible for pardon

Persons convicted of sexual abuses against children will not be eligible for amnesty, under an amendment approved today by the Government to the Criminal Code, Info-Prim Neo reports. The limitation also extends on those who recruited children for sexual exploitation and forced children into prostitution. Deputy Justice Minister Vladimir Grosu told the Government that sexual abuses against children and the abusive use of children's images online have become more frequent lately. Such crimes represent a serious violation of the children's fundamental rights and thus the perpetrators should not be eligible for pardon, argued Grosu. Reconciliation shouldn't be an option either, because this doesn't contribute to the correction of the offender; on the contrary, it encourages perpetrators, he added. Data of the National Center for Preventing Child Abuses show that the number of complaints of abuse and trafficking involving children rose from 250 in 2010 to 418 in 2012.
