A child of almost two months was hospitalized after his parents used well water in feeding him. Doctors of the Balti Municipal Hospital, where the child is receiving treatment, established that the child suffers from nitrate poisoning.

Head of the Emergency Admissions Section Ala Condrea has told IPN that the baby was admitted to the reanimatology section. The parents used well water in the artificial alimentation as they thought it is better than the running water.

Contacted by IPN, head of the Health Service of the Balti mayor’s office Feodora Radiucova said that such a case was recorded in the settlement for the first. The situation will be examined in the next meeting of the Balti Municipal Council.

The head of the Public Health Center of Balti municipality Constantin Marandel said the well from which water was taken will be analyzed so as to determine the concentration of nitrates. Afterward, there will be taken the required measures.

Dumitru Sireteanu, of the National Public Health Center, said that over 84% of the wells in Moldova are polluted. The parents must make sure that the water sources are not contaminated.

Last year, a child of one month suffered clinical death after the parents fed him on food prepared using well water.
