A girl aged nine was killed in a road accident near the School of Arts in Ialoveni town. The pupil was struck lethally by a truck in a crosswalk, IPN reports.
Ialoveni Police Inspectorate press officer Silvia Vetcu said the accident happened at about 1:20pm. The truck was driven by a 64-year-old man.
The driver was placed under arrest for 72 hours. The tests showed he didn’t drink alcohol.
Update: When questioned by the police, the driver said that he didn’t see the child, stated Silvia Vetcu.
Update: Contacted by IPN, Daniela Bodorin, director of the Ialoveni School of Arts, confirmed that the girl was a student of the institution. She was going to her violin class. Eyewitnesses said there were several children waiting at the crosswalk. When they saw the truck was slowing down, they started to cross the street, but stopped when they understood the vehicle continued its way. The struck girl didn’t manage to go back together with the other children. “They say the driver didn’t see them,” stated Daniela Bodorin.
Update: Pictures taken at the scene show the crosswalk is colored in red and white for better visibility and a warning sign “School” is placed in front of the pedestrian crossing.
