A serious home accident happened in a family in Sangerei town. A child aged one year and a half was admitted to the intensive care section after he had his head trapped in the window blinds. The parents found him unconscious and called a SMURD team that rushed him to the Balti Municipal Clinical Hospital.

Surgeon Alexandru Branza has told IPN that the child suffered mechanical asphyxiation and was admitted to the intensive care section. After he was subject to emergency treatment, he was transferred to the surgery section, where his state of health has improved. If the child hadn’t been found immediately, the consequences could have been fatal. There were similar cases earlier. The adults must not leave the children unsupervised as these are very curious at this age and do not realize the dangers to which they expose themselves.

The grownups must check the house for dangers and remove the objects that can harm the child someway. Children’s access to the balcony must be restricted. All the heavy objects should be fixed well as there were cases when children died after the stove, TV set or cupboard fell over them. Specialists say it is the duty of each parent to make sure that the home is free of dangers for their children.

According to the Ministry of Health, the traumas and poisonings are among the main causes of death among children aged between 1 and 5 in Moldova. During six years, the REPEMOL (Regionalization of Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care Service in Moldova) Project, in cooperation with the authorities, have informed the parents about the measures that they must take to prevent home accidents involving children under five within the campaign “A danger-free home for your child”.
