A boy aged six from Etulia village of Comrat municipality died while swimming in the Cahul Lake in the afternoon of August 2.

Contacted by IPN, press officer of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies Liliana Puscasu said the minor went swimming together with his brother, without the knowledge of their parents. When he saw that his brother didn’t emerge from water, the younger boy alerted locals.

Rescuers of Cahul and Vulcanesti were called out and these shortly took the minor’s body out of the water.

The grownups are repeatedly warned not to leave the children unsupervised when these swim or are near rivers and ponds. 

A number of 42 persons drowned in Moldova so far this year. Nine of these were minors.
