An eight-year-old child died last night in a serious accident that occurred in the municipality of Balti. It was found that the impact was caused by a drunk driver, who ran a light red, hitting the taxicab in which the girl and her mother were travelling, IPN reports.
The General Police Inspectorate said that the accident occurred at around 00:30 a.m., at the intersection of Ștefan cel Mare and Pushkin streets in Balti. Preliminarily, it was established that the driver of a Porsche, a 38-year-old man, ignored the red color of the traffic light and struck sideways a Toyota taxi, which was moving legally. The impact was so strong that the Porsche was projected into a Mitsubishi.
The accident resulted in the death of the 8-year-old taxi passenger. Her mother, 44, and the taxi driver, 45, suffered various injuries and are receiving medical care.
The woman was transported to the Balti Clinical Hospital. Contacted by IPN for details, the spokeswoman for the medical institution Andreea Galici said that the patient's condition is of medium severity and is stable.
The driver of the Porsche was tested with the Dräger device and the result showed an alcohol concentration of 0.77 mg/l in the exhaled air, which is an advanced state of intoxication. He was detained for 72 hours. A criminal case was initiated on the case.
