The removal of the PAS government through free and fair elections is the only solution to change the situation in the Republic of Moldova, the chairman of the Party for Development and Consolidation of Moldova (PDCM) Ion Chicu stated in the program "Resumé" on RliveTV channel. He referred to Socialist leader Igor Dodon’s announcement about the organization of anti-government protests starting February 22, IPN reports.
"We don't want anyone to speculate on citizens' problems and use these protests for narrow political purposes. When you start a protest, you have to think about what the continuity. I do not want this democratic instrument to be used by political forces in narrow interests," said Ion Chicu.
He warned that, before the parliamentary elections, such actions can be used to destabilize the country, which could even lead to a new state of emergency.
"There are six months left until the parliamentary elections and I would not like scenarios that would maintain what is happening in the country or, even worse, would create conditions for destabilization and the declaring of a state of emergency to be applied," said the politician.
According to him, holding free and fair elections and removing the current PAS government by democratic means are the only legitimate way to get the country out of the impasse.
"No protest now can radically change the situation in the country, except through free and democratic elections by which to remove this incompetent government and allow professional, dedicated people to solve the problems. Taking into account the regional conjuncture, of war, all the opposition has to do now is to convince the people in the elections to remove this government," concluded Ion Chicu.
Socialist leader Igor Dodon announced that his party will start anti-government protests on Saturday, February 22, at 11:00 a.m., in front of the Presidential Palace.
