Chess Academy of Moldova supports amateur chess

The Chess Academy of Moldova is supporting the development of chess among amateurs in specialized tournaments. Today, February 25, the Ambassadors Cup took place for the first time. It gathered representatives of the Romanian and Belorussian embassies and of the UN Development Programme, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the chairman of the Academy and International Grandmaster Viorel Iordachescu, the goal of such tournaments is to develop chess among amateurs, to establish relations between chess amateurs and offer them the pleasure of competition. Viorel Iordachescu hopes that participants in these tournaments will contribute financially to promoting chess among children in rural areas. Organizers announced that after the Businessmen Cup and Ambassadors Cup, the Banks Cup would be organized in April. The money obtained from registration fees will be invested in developing and promoting chess among children. Participants will receive symbolic awards from the Chess Academy of Moldova and winners will be awarded cups. The idea of these tournaments appeared after a poll had shown many businessmen and representatives of prestigious institutions wished to play chess outside their program. They complain about a lack of time and of playing partners, so the Chess Academy offers them the possibility to play in such tournaments. The Businessmen Cup was organized on February 18 and a second edition will follow on March 18.
