The checkpoint of the joint peacekeeping forces situated on the bridge over the Nistru, near Vadul lui Vodă, is the place where Vadim Pisari, a 19-year-old man from Pârâta village, died after he was shot by a Russian peacekeeper on January 1, 2012. The ECHR condemned Russia in this case and ordered to pay €35,000 damages and €5,580 court costs to Vadim Pisarri’s family. Experts in security studies proposed replacing the military peacekeeping mission with a civilian one managed by the OSCE.
