Cheaper telephone conversations with Transnistria
The Government of Moldova is creating preconditions for signing an agreement on the interconnection of the fixed-line telephone networks from the right and left banks of the Nistru River, Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology Dorin Recean said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
Under the Government Decision, the State Registration Chamber will register the Transnistrian communications carriers and will issue them with registration certificates. The National Regulation Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology will issue licenses to the given companies.
The direct connection between the network of SA Moldtelecom and the network of Transnistria's S.A.T.I. Interdnestrocom was suspended in September 2003. The telephone calls from Transnistria pass through the networks of fixed-line operators from other countries before reaching the network of Moldtelecom and are charged as international calls.
According to Dorin Recean, the initiative to sign direct agreements on the provision of fixed-line phone services and exclude foreign intermediaries was put forward by businesses operating on both of the banks of the Nistru. If this initiative is put into practice, the telephone calls will be several times cheaper and the quality of the calls will be better, the deputy minister said.
