About 50 beekeepers and strawberry growers exhibited their products at a charity fair in front of a shop in central Chisinau on June 12. The fifth part of the proceeds will be donated to children suffering from cancer and to disabled children, Info-Prim Neo reports. The association “Demetra” will provide by 200 lei to every child who suffers from cancer, said the organization’s representative Valentina Lozova. The day center “Speranta” came to the fair with works made by the children who attend it. “The money we will make from selling these works will be used to finance the services provided for children with disabilities,” said the center’s executive director Viorica Cojocaru. An artistic program involving national professional and amateur artists, including children, was held as part of the fair. The organizers also prepared a surprise for the children – a cake weighing 20 kilograms. “The cake is made from honey and strawberries. We hope it will make the children’s lives sweeter,” said Eudochia Ursu, the head of the restaurant that made the cake. Those who came to the fair could buy strawberries for 25-30 lei per kilogram. The price of the honey varies between 17 and 70 lei. A bee honey producer said beekeeping is not an attractive activity for the young people and there is a risk that there will be few persons who would want to take care of bees in the future. Another seller said there is not much honey on the market as large quantities were exported to Russia and Bulgaria. The event was organized by the National Farmers Federation, the association “Demetra” that brings together farmers, gardeners, fruit growers, wine growers and flower growers, the Association of Beekeepers of Moldova Apis Melifera, and the center “Speranta”.
