The specially designated prosecutor Andrei Balan has decided to terminate the investigation against Alexandr Stoianoglo, the now suspended Prosecutor General, in the case of the illegally deported Turkish teachers.

The investigation was started on a complaint of ex-MP Inga Grigoriu, who alleged that Stoianoglo helped to cover up the case that he inherited from his predecessor and did little to prosecute those responsible. Only one person, the former director of the Security and Intelligence Service, stood trial and he eventually got away with a fine.

But the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office now says that based on the examined evidence, Stoianoglo was not chargeable with the alleged offenses.

The decision not to prosecute can be appealed within 15 days with a superior prosecutor.

In September 2018, seven teachers and members of a Moldovan-Turkish network of schools were illegally deported by the Plahotniuc regime to Turkey. Later in court, Vasile Botnari, the then SIS director, took all the blame on himself.
