Changes to Election Code favor only PDM and PSRM, extraparliamentary parties

The amendments to the Election Code by which the mixed-member electoral system is introduced advantage the Democratic Party and the Party of Socialists that, in such conditions, will be the only winners of the parliamentary elections of 2018. The issue was developed in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Chairwoman of the National Liberal Party Vitalia Pavlichenko said she earlier pleaded for the mixed electoral system, but in the current conditions cannot support the changes made to the Election Code. “Earlier, I saw in this system an opportunity. It was in the time of the Communist government, when Vladimir Voronin was considered the only idol. But things changed in time. The so-called debates on the amendments to the Election Code were simulated. These changes favor only the PDM and PSRM. The PNL submitted a number of proposals, but they were all ignored. Instead, the PSRM imposed harsh conditions, first of all to keep the election thresholds,” she stated.

A similar position was stated by the deputy chairwoman of the Liberal Reformist Party Tatiana Potang. “The modification of the electoral system advantages those from the PDM and PSRM and also the PPEM for now. The future government will be a single-color one, red by definition. Most of those from the PDM and PSRM are the progenitors of Voronin. Those from the PDM and PSRM worked hard for the electoral system to be modified as they wanted. Everything they do now is done with the aim of keeping power,” she said.
