Changes proposed to regulations on transportation by school buses

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Research suggests changes to the regulations concerning the transportation of students by school buses that were approved in 2014, IPN reports.

According to the data of local education divisions, about 22,000 students are taken to school by 386 school buses in the 2018-2019 academic year (situation on 15.09.2018). Of the 386 buses, 109 were bought and distributed to districts by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, 196 were donated by the Government of Romania and 81 were bought with local funds. Furthermore, 56 units of transported are being rented.

To increase the safety of students who are transported by school buses, it is proposed creating school transport services in some of the districts and instituting the post of person who accompanies children on the school bus.

A change refers to teaching staff. The teachers could be transported by school buses to different working meetings, conferences and seminars, but only if this does not disrupt the transportation of students to school.

The changes will take effect after they are approved by the Government and are published in the Official Gazette.
