The amendments made to the law on allowances for temporary incapacity for work and other types of social welfare came into force on January 1, 2020. These enable the socially insured persons to ask for child benefit according to a number of variants, IPN reports.
The insured person can further apply for a benefit up to the child’s age of three in the amount of 30% of the calculation basis for each child, but not less than the minimum monthly child benefit of 640 lei.
A new option is to ask for a benefit up to the child’s age of two years and two months. In this case, the monthly benefit paid until the child turns one will represent 60% of the calculation basis for each child, but not less than the minimum monthly child benefit multiplied by two (1,280 lei). Since the child turns one until the age of two years and two months, the monthly benefit will represent 30% of the calculation basis set for each child, but not less than the minimum monthly child benefit of 640 lei.
If the insured person asks for childcare leave up to the child’s age of three and for a child benefit up to the child’s age of two years and two months, monthly benefit for the remaining period of ten months is not paid.
The National House of Social Insurance said the option used initially cannot be changed later.
