Chairman of the Supreme Court of Justice has been detained

Following the hearings held at the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, Ion Druță, the chairman of the Supreme Court of Justice, has been detained for 72 hours. According to a statement of the Prosecutor General's Office, there is reasonable suspicion of his committing illicit enrichment, IPN reports.

The press statement says that Ion Druță’s detention was required as, given his status, he could influence other persons that are to be examined by the criminal prosecution.

"We note that, although Ion Druță has resigned as chairman of the Supreme Court of Justice, his resignation has not been yet accepted by the Superior Council of Magistrates," the statement said.
