Chairman of Teleradio-Moldova and director of TV Moldova 1 elected

The Supervisory Board (SB) of “Teleradio-Moldova” Company (TRM) elected Valentin Todercan as chairman of the Company and Adela Raileanu as director of the national TV station Moldova 1, on Tuesday, April 10. 7 out of 9 SB members voted for Todercan during the secret voting. Other 2 members voted Ludmila Barba who had run for the same office. Adela Raileanu gathered 6 votes, other 3 members voting for Sandu Osadcenco, who also applied for the office of TV director. The director of the national radio station “Radio Moldova” was not elected. 7 out of 9 members voted against all the candidates and the ballots were annulled. Mariana Slapac, SB chairman, said that a new contest will be organised for this office. Valentin Todercan told reporters that as the new chairman of the Company he will pay particular attention to professional, transparent and unbiased newscasts, as well as to programmes for youth, entertainment shows, sports and investigation programmes. Adela Raileanu said that the most important task of “Moldova 1” at present is to work out a regulation on the organisation of electoral debates for the local elections. Several candidates for the aforementioned offices claimed the lack of transparency in the organisation of the contest and said they will dispute it in court. Veacslav Ionita, SB member, told reporters that he is “ashamed of what happened”, because, following debates among the SB members, the results should have been different. Ionita hopes that proceedings will be initiated against the results of the contest. 11 persons competed for the office of Company chairman, 5 for TV director, and 4 for the office of national radio director. On March 23, MP Leonid Bujor told the Parliament sitting that the persons to be appointed were already known, namely Valentin Todercan as TRM Chairman, Adela Raileanu – TV director and Vlad Turcanu as director of “Radio Moldova”. According to Bujor, the contests to appoint the Company’s management and members of the SB and Broadcasting Coordination Council were continuing the partition of media sources in Moldova between the ruling party and its allies. Previously, the Chisinau-based media, including “Jurnal de Chisinau” and “Timpul de dimineata” were announcing that the results of the contest were known, mentioning the same names. Subsequently, Vlad Turcanu withdrew his candidacy for the office of “Radio Moldova” director.
