Chairman of ASM states that in Moldova is no unique control system of pollution in agriculture

There is no management of waste products or control system of pollution in Agriculture, no law which would stimulate investors in agriculture to use ecological clean technologies, the chairman of the Academy of Science of Moldova, Gheorghe Duca declared at the regional Conference “Control of pollution with nutrients in the Danube River and Black Sea region”, which is organized for the first time in Moldova. According to the scientist, the Moldovan legislation does not stipulate any sanctions against those who use pollutant techniques in agriculture. However it is very important to create such laws, because the economy of Moldova to a great extent is based on the agricultural activity, and for an intensive agriculture advanced technologies are needed, which pitifully lead to pollution. The Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Anatol Gorodenco welcomed the implementation in the last two years in Hancesti raion of a project of the Global Ecologic Fund, aimed at reducing the volume of nutrients and other agricultural pollutants, which reach rivers. This control is performed through integrated measures of water and soil management. According to the minister, depositing the stable waste in conditions of ecological safety and its transformation into compost has an extremely efficient economic effect, especially at present, when fertilizers are very expensive, and agricultural producers have a reduced financial potential in order to buy them. According to Gorodenco, Moldova needs such projects, thus the authorities decided to continue collaboration with the World Bank in order to implement similar projects. The Minister mentioned that the project will stand as an example of harmless agriculture for the environment and health of people for other zones of Moldova, but also for the decision-making authorities. The regional conference is organized during October 3-6, with the support of the Global Ecologic Fund, WB Office in Moldova and the UNDP Office. About 80 scientists, specialized in this field from several countries of the world will participate at the conference, including from Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, Philippines, Italy, Kenya, Norway, Nigeria, Romania, the USA, Turkey, Hungary etc.
