The Emergency Management Center of the Commission for Emergency Situations (CES) of the Republic of Moldova, hosted by the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, resumes its work in connection with the situation experienced in the energy sector. Prime Minister Dorin Recean formulated such a request at the meeting of the Government commission for the coordination of measures to prepare for the 2024-2025 heating season and mitigate the impact of the energy crisis, IPN reports.
The Government said that the Emergency Management Center will work in case of interruptions in power supply caused by possible shelling of the energy infrastructure in Ukraine. The entity will also intervene if an electricity supply contract is not concluded with the Kuchurgan power plant.
Information about the supplies and purchases of natural gas and electricity was presented during the meeting. According to the presented report, JSC “Moldovagaz” announced that it fully completed the purchase of natural gas for the right bank of the Nistru for the winter season. The weighted average price of purchases is €509 per thousand cubic meters.
Regarding the supply of electricity, JSC "Energocom" said that it had discussions with S.N. "Nuclearelectrica" and "OMV Petrom" in order to negotiate the replacement of electricity imports at a preferential price until the end of March 2025. The two companies expressed their willingness to increase the amount of electricity sold to JSC "Energocom" for that period. It also took all measures to increase the purchases of electricity generated in the Republic of Moldova.
In addition, JSC "Termoelectrica" and JSC "CET-Nord" reported on the possibilities to increase electricity production, informing about the absence of significant risks regarding the proper functioning of the thermal energy generation and distribution equipment and about the qualitative supply of thermal energy to consumers in the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti.
For its part, "Moldelectrica" announced that it successfully tested the operation of the four 110 kV lines of interconnection with Romania, where the maximum capacity that can be used will reach 110 MW. At the same time, it is having discussions with the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity ENTSO-E in order to increase the capacity this can offer to the Republic of Moldova on interconnections with Romania.
Starting Monday, December 16, a state of emergency will be in force in the Republic of Moldova for a period of 60 days in connection with the situation in the energy sector.
