CES Chisinau declares state of emergency in water supply sector

The Commission for Exceptional Situations of the municipality of Chisinau said that a state of emergency was declared in the sector of water supply and sewerage. Given the crisis of energy resources that does not enable SA “Apă-Canal Chișinău” to cover its operating costs and financial obligations, there is a risk that the water supply and sewerage services provided for the residents of the municipality will be stopped.

In a press release, the municipality said that SA “Apă-Canal Chișinău” cannot pay for the consumed electricity and all the salaries. At the end of last year, the company had a deficit of over 400 million lei. For 2023, the deficit is estimated at 700 million lei, IPN reports.

“ACC’s financial situation shows negative indexes and the company is unable to pay for electrical energy and all the salaries. In the absence of measures to adjust the water charge, the company cannot supply water to consumers,” the Chisinau City Hall said in a press release.

The Commission for Exceptional Situations of the municipality of Chisinau entrusted SA “Apă-Canal Chișinău” with the task of presenting draft decisions concerning the concession of the lending agreements between “ACC” SA and the EBRD and EIB and the draft decision on the approval of the public water supply and sewerage changes to the Chisinau Municipal Council, which will examine these in an extraordinary meeting. The Commission noted the decision should be adopted as a matter of urgency without consulting the citizens, the constituted associations and other interested parties.
