CES allots 100m lei for farmers affected by drought

The Commission for Emergency Situations (CES) has allocated 100 million lei from the Government’s Intervention Fund for farmers affected by drought. This was announced by Prime Minister Dorin Recean at the beginning of the Cabinet’s meeting, IPN reports.

“The CES today decided to allot 100 million lei from the Government’s Intervention Fund to partially cover the losses that particularly the agricultural producers suffered as a result of the intense heat and drought this year,” stated Premier Recean.

He instructed the agriculture and finance ministers to ensure that this aid is made available to farmers as quickly as possible.

“We continue to look for solutions for the agricultural sector, efficient solutions. That’s why by next week we will prepare the instrument of exceptional situation for farmers, especially cereal producers from particular districts of the Republic of Moldova, by Romania’s model,” said Dorin Recean.

Earlier, representatives of the Farmers’ Force association requested the authorities to declare a state of emergency in agriculture, which would allow instituting a moratorium on the payment of penalties and foreclosures.
