Cereal harvesting close to an end
The reaping of cereal crops is coming to an end. The harvesting works have been 98% carried out. Some of the districts will celebrate The Last Ear holiday the next days, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Valeriu Cosarciuc said in the August 4 meeting of the Government, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
According to the minister, there were harvested 780,000 tonnes of wheat, 245,000 tonnes of barley, 45,000 tonnes of rape, and 19,500 tonnes of pea.
“The 300,000 tonnes of food wheat gathered allow ensuring the country’s food security. There is enough fodder for the animal-breeding sector,” Valeriu Cosarciuc said.
This year, the Government did not announce estimative prices for the grains. The Ministry of Agriculture recommends the producers to store the grains at authorized cereal companies and not sell them immediately, but when the prices on the market become stable. The cereal prices on the international market are expected to rise in autumn.
The state-run cereal companies will keep the grains for three months free of charge. The storage certificates issued can be pledged to obtain bank loans. During three months, the interest rate on the given loans will be paid with money from the agriculture subsidization fund.
