Centru district court has ten days to validate elections
The Chisinau District Electoral Council is to present all the vote counting reports to the Central Election Commission (CEC) by the end of June 8. Immediately afterward, the CEC will send them to the Centru district court, which will have ten days at the disposal to examine and validate the election results, the Commission’s president Iurie Ciocan stated for Info-Prim Neo.
According to Iurie Ciocan, if the court invalidates the election results in one or several districts, the CEC will have to organize rerun elections in those districts in two weeks. The second round of mayoral elections in these districts will be postponed.
In a press briefing on June 7, the Communists’ candidate for mayor of Chisinau Igor Dodon said he will demand annulling the election results in a number of polling places. He stated that the PCRM’s team has enough proofs that violations were committed on the election day, which can affect the election outcome.
According to the CEC, Igor Dodon polled 48.07% of the vote, while Dorin Chirtoaca – 46.51%. A second round of voting will be held as none of the candidates earned over 50% of the poll.
