The National Bank of Moldova remains open in the cooperation with the investigation bodies as it is ready to support the efforts made to recover the stolen bank funds and is interested in the successful completion of the investigation. The comment was made after Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo in an interview said that the NBM didn't provide full assistance in investigating the bank theft, IPN reports.
The Bank says that throughout the investigation period, it extensively cooperated with the investigation bodies and transmitted all the requested information, including eloquent additional data on its own initiative. There were also held common meetings with prosecutors in which the NBM's specialists expressed their readiness to help investigate the fraud.
Since the start of the investigation, the Bank furnished multiple relevant documents and delegated specialists to take part in procedural actions. This year alone, the NBM issued the criminal investigation bodies with electronic data in the amount of 2 TB (terabytes), containing hundreds of thousands of files, and is to transmit another 12 TB of data. There were also presented 8,694 paper pages with information.
Also, by contracting the international consortium “Kroll and Steptoe & Johnson”, the central bank expressed institutional interest in the conduct of an objective and independent investigation.
In an interview, Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo said that they repeatedly asked the National Bank of Moldova to provide the information needed to investigate the bank fraud, but met with misunderstanding and even particular resistance.
