Centers for homeless persons overcrowded
The center for homeless persons located on Haltei St in Chisinau is full to capacity. In order to shelter all those who came or were brought to the center by ambulances, the administration had to improvise additional sleeping places, including on the floor.
The center’s director Iurie Ursu has told Info-Prim Neo that the number of those who need shelter when the weather grows colder rises to over 100, while the accommodation capacity is of only 70 places. The center’s employees had to look for additional blankets and mattresses. Among those who come to the shelter are men and women aged between 18 and 80. At the center they are given food and can stay overnight. The homeless persons are also given clothes donated by people.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, spokesman for the General Police Commissariat Adrian Jovmir said the police are performing raids throughout the town. Earlier they found by 10 homeless persons during 24 hours, but now they find by about 20 on the street, in stations or in abandoned constructions.
The homeless persons are brought to the specialized center of the General Police Commissariat, where they can stay for three hours. When it is very cold outside, they make expectations and the persons can stay overnight. Most of the homeless persons come to Chisinau from districts. The police contact the local public administration and try to integrate them into their families.
Heavy snow and sleet and high winds were forecast for this weekend. Next week temperatures will drop to -18 °C at night.
