Center to be set up to diminish risks of natural calamities

Specialists in agriculture, economy and ecology hope to set up a Center to diminishing the risks of natural calamities in 2009. Messages messages were heard at a seminar “Institutional Strengthening Natural Risks Diminishing System,” Info-Prim Neo reports. A advisor for Business Consulting Institute (BCI), Victor Moroz, specifies the center's goal will be to strengthen the institutional frame to diminish the natural risks. According to him, there are many institutions in Moldova dealing with diminishing the natural risks, but coordinating their work is not efficient, that is why such a Center needs to be created. “The entity working under the Government's subordination as a non-governmental agency will assist authorities and the people in diminishing risks. It will analyze the situation, will make the necessary estimates, Victor Moroz says. The idea was put up for the Government's approval as part of the National Strategy of diminishing natural hazards climate change. According to Moroz, the Strategy aims at reducing Moldova's vulnerability to natural hazards and minimize the losses of human lives, natural, economic and financial resources. The draft pays heed to preventing measures and to measures meant to increase resilience and diminish consequences by employing modern technique and legal mechanisms. The draft National Strategy is to be considered by the Government later this month and entails a budget of 300 million lei annually. It was launched for public debate on August 14 august.
