Center of diagnosis and treatment of cervical pathologies opened in Chisinau

A reference center in colposcopy that will provide cervical pathology diagnosis and treatment services to women was opened at the Mother and Child Institute. The center was outfitted with last-generation equipment through the agency of the Kusanone program that is supported by the Embassy of Japan in Moldova. The equipment cost over US$ 84,000, IPN reports.

The Center’s director Uliana Tabuica said colposcopy is the detailed examination of the cervix and is recommended when the results of the Papanicolau test show abnormal cervical cells. The equipment owned by the center is intended for the treatment of pre-cancerous injuries that can appear on the cervix under the action of the human papillomavirus. The colonoscope increases the image of the cervix for 60, 80 and 100 times.

Uliana Tabuica also said that for medically insured persons colposcopy is free, while for uninsured persons will cost 54 lei. If biopsy is also needed, 215 lei will be paid additionally.

Director of the Mother and Child Institute Sergiu Gladun expressed his conviction that now the medical services provided by their institution will only improve.

Japan’s Ambassador to Moldova Masanobu Yoshii said this project is a special one and pursues a bigger goal – to prevent cervical cancer in Moldova by providing cervical screening services, early detecting the disease and swiftly offering the treatment needed for saving patients.

The center has seven employees – five doctors and two nurses.
