Cemetery in Premier’s native village among cleanest in the country

The native village of Premier Vasile Tarlev, Bascalia, Basarabeasca district, has one of the cleanest cemeteries in the country. The special commission on inspection of the cemeteries in Moldova has come to this conclusion as a result of a new republican contest organised on occasion of the Easter Feast. However, Bascalia will not receive, at Tarlev’s request, the “well-deserved” prize of MDL 30 thousand, offered as part of the contest. At Thursday’s sitting of the Cabinet, the Commission announced the three cemeteries that deserve being awarded. They are: the first - cemetery in Negresti, (Straseni), the second - in Bascalia (Basarabeasca) and the third is located in Cuselauca (Soldanesti). The town halls of these villages were to receive MDL 50 thousand, MDL 30 thousand and, respectively, MDL 20 thousand. Tarlev requested to exclude his native village from the list of winners so as not to cause suspicions regarding the contest’s unbiased character. The sum of MDL 30 thousand for Bascalia village would be allotted to another settlement. Premier Tarlev announced the contest for the cleanest cemetery before the Memorial Easter. The contest was launched after the Premier asked local authorities in March to clean up the settlements and refit the cemeteries, finding that the undertaken actions were not enough.
