On Low Sunday that was observed on May 1 and 2, the 47 cemeteries of Chisinau were visited by about 120,000 persons, with the figure being lower than the previous years, said the local public administration.
In the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services, Tudor Gîrbu, consultant in the Mayor General’s Office, said that free bus routes to Saint Lazarus Cemetery were provided on May 1 and 2. About 47,000 people were transported on May 1, down from approximately 59,000 passengers in 2019. The number of people who travelled by the municipality’s buses on May 2 was of over 32,000, as opposed to 33,000 in 2019.
Vehicles didn’t have access to Saint Lazarus Cemetery. Parking places were set up nearby. Traffic jams appeared, but the traffic police handled the situation.
The responsible services during the two days cleaned up the cemeteries. According to the authorities, over 200 cubic meters of municipal solid waste were collected from Saint Lazarus Cemetery that is about 147 ha in area.
