CEC will propose the Parliament to amend electoral legislation

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) will advise the modification of the Electoral Code by introducing a stipulation that would give to the public local authorities the right to appoint the members of the electoral councils in case political parties do not appoint their own members in the legal time-limits. According to the quoted source, CEC will submit to the Parliament a proposal regarding the modification of the electoral procedure and electoral system based on international experience and the international conference “Electoral Systems and Procedures. International Practice”, held recently in Chisinau. Stirbu mentioned these proposals will be systematized and afterwards the proposals that fit the necessities of the Republic of Moldova will be sent to the Parliament for examination. CEC will elaborate a brochure in 3 languages which will include the debates held at the international conference. The quoted source also announced that at present CEC is preparing a collaboration and experience exchange project with the similar organization from Latvia regarding the electoral procedures and systems, civic education of the citizens etc. At present, in the Parliament are examined other proposals of CEC about the modification of the Electoral Code, that stipulate the introduction of the “elector’s card” and modification of the ballots etc. According to the members of CEC, the Parliament will examine these proposals by the end of this month.
